A Bit Of Bragging

Last weekend, my daughter went psycho. She and a friend decided that they wanted to help support Special Olympics here in Maryland.  That, in and of itself, is laudable; but how they decided to do it was questionable!

The largest fundraiser for Special Olympics Maryland is a Polar Bear Plunge. They have them all over the world for various causes and for fun. The one here in Maryland is supposedly the largest and attracts 15,000 people to take a chilly dip into the Chesapeake Bay in the middle of winter. The snow had stopped, but the conditions were…..brrrr

  • Air temperature  32°
  • Water temperature 33°

The event was a blast with a ton of entertainment including music spun by DJ Pauly D (Yes, Pauly D from Jersey Shore. And if you want my opinion of what the “D” stands for just ask.), Joe Flacco from our local NFL team the Baltimore Ravens, and a wonderful little girl named Rosa Marcellino who was the impetus behind Rosa’s Law which was signed into law last year by President Obama. Rosa lives here and Elizabeth is friends with her older sister Maddie, so it was an extra special day.

Elizabeth and her friend raised just over $600 (you had to raise [or pay] $50 per person to dip) and I could not be more proud.  Although I do still question her sanity.

And here is a fun video I made of the day as well:

If you are interested in more photos, I uploaded an album to share–yes, including Pauly D!
